 Make-A-Space

One of the most heartbreaking decisions we have to make is to turn away a dog due to lack of space and supplies, knowing that we are the last chance for that dog.  To make additional space means that additional equipment must be purchased.  With each additional space the following supplies are needed:  Crate or Kennel, collar, leash, food and water bowls, towels, blankets or dog beds, chew toys, kongs, nylabones, balls, sterilized bones, bleach for cleaning, food, Heartgard, Frontline.   You may "Make-A-Space" in memory of someone special or just add a special sentiment.  Your name and/or photo/saying will be placed on one of the ornaments below. "Make-A-Space" is reserved for sponsorships of $50 or more.  Be a "Star Donor" with donations of $100 or more.   Thank you for your generosity

Rescue Stories

Most of our rescues come to us with a sad story and issues, be it health or behavioral, that we have to work through before being able to get these dogs into loving homes.  There isn't enough space on this page to tell you the story behind each of these rescues.  Just to give you an idea, we are going to share a few of the situations we have dealt with this year.

Casa Del Toro's Emmie Mae

Her story begins on a wet cold, fall evening Animal control got a call of a dog hit by a car laying dead at the side of the road, when officer Lee arrived on the scene she was horrified at what she saw, lying there in the grass, a lifeless body of a dog, she scooped her up and it was then she noticed she was not dead, but rapidly declining, she placed her in her vehicle and went to the vet, it was there that the full extent of her injures would be uncovered, as she stood there with the veterinarian she looked at her thinking, is this girl going to make it?

After they worked on her, she lay in a kennel with a warmer on her, everything that could be done for this little girl was being done, now all we could do was wait, Her temp dropped dramatically that night, it was then they really didn't think she would make it through,......but she did, this little girls will to live was so strong that it out shined anything she was going through in her little body, We were contacted and we came to pull her out and take her home wit h us, and we are happy to report that she is doing good, she may look a little tattered and riddled with bites and tears but she is our little diamond in the rough We named her "Emmie Marie" a soft beautiful name for a soft and beautiful dog.

Measle's Animal Haven's Diva and pups

All 7 puppies and their Mom (Diva) were rescued by animal control from a small outdoor kennel where their Mom (purebred blue pit) had been chained 24/7 along with a their Dad (red male purebred pit bull). The 2 pits were bred over and over again but this time when Diva started to give birth, the male got way too close (he was hungry because they weren't fed often). Diva and the male tussled and the male strangled to death on his own chain. Diva gave birth to 9 pups lying on top of the dead male because her chain was wrapped around his body. Diva and the pups were removed by animal control later that day, and the 2 smallest pups died at the pound.  The owner claimed to be a responsible, professional breeder, breeding dogs with two of the most well known bloodlines.

We rescued Diva and pups within a week of their birth and we are thrilled with all of them. DIVA HAS THE BEST TEMPERAMENT AND SHE IS AN EXCEPTIONAL MOTHER. All the puppies are gorgeous.

Pittie's Place - Little Bit and Boo

These two gorgeous pups were found screaming in a trash dumpster.  They were around 3 weeks old, bellies full of worms, covered in fleas, they had rickets and fungal skin issues.  It took round the clock care to nurse them back to health and hundreds of dollars to do so.  Even with all of that care, Little Bit's health was still compromised.  She went in to cardiac arrest shortly following her spay surgery.  She was revived and needed additional medical care following her surgery.  Months later, the two girls are truly happy, healthy, playful pups and have been true joys to have with us.  These two girls have the truest and largest pittie puppy smiles I have ever seen and tails that just won't stop.
